The Youth Medal Program is dedicated to acknowledge the children of Minnesota soldiers who have been deployed – recognizing that even though a child does not wear a uniform, they serve too! Parents or guardians returning from a deployment, present a Challenge Coin to their child in recognition of the sacrifices that the child has made while their parent or guardian was gone.

These coins MUST be requested by the Unit Command. In the past, units have presented this to the child during the award ceremony for the returning soldiers. If the unit has already returned home from a tour of duty overseas, the Unit Command may request the Challenge Coin to present to the children during a family event or another event for the child to honor them.
